The one real nice thing about Hawaii (any of the islands) is how easy it is to get to from here.
But if you think the waters are awesome there, you should one day try going further south. It will blow you away. Having dived in the Barrier Reef a few years ago, and then in Hawaii this last summer (after not having been to Hawaii in about ten years) .. there's no comparison. It's *nice* and all, after all it's more than what we have here in Calgary

but I found myself longing for some serious SPS structures, clams, anemones ...
It was once described to me that you can think of "Papua New Guinea" as "reefing ground zero". The further away you get from PNG, the younger the reefs and thus you can expect diversity to thin out correspondingly. It's all good, of course, don't get me wrong.
It's just too bad it's considerably more $$$ and hassle to get to such places. Oh well, guess there has to be a trade-off somehow.
