My thoughts on this is (and this is only my opinion) that a 1/8 chip if it is thin and lengthwise should be ok - i don't believe that will affect the overall structural integrity of the glass pane because the water pressure is evenly spread througout the seams and panes of the glass. If for whatever reason the pressure in your tank will be higher at the location of the chip, then I would be more concern.
Also look at the chip with a magnifying glass to see if there is any hairline cracks that could potentially expand later.
