Hi Brian,
Ya, its been a long time overdue to finally get this sucker up and running. Unfortunately, the skimmer needed a new impeller, it was quite worn out and so its a bit rattly. I got another used system from Rudy with a Turbo floater skimmer, same pump and everything, so now I actually have 2 of them. His was much newer and so that pump is nice and quiet. I'll probably keep em both for parts and all the extras just in case I anything for now.
As for the rest, I've really been able to keep this thing quite!! That was my main plan. You're old aqua medic pump runs well for this since I have a very low flow through the sump/refugium. You can only really hear the skimmer, not much else!! I'm surprised a seio makes as much noise as they do, I was hoping they were completely silent for the cost of them. Oh well. I can divert the majority of the sump pump output back to the sump just to keep the overflow and drain lines quieter with lower flow. The whole system is quieter than our 90G freshwater that sits in the same room which is a big relief. I'm going to redo its sump next to shut it up as well. I'll need to replace its plumbing with flex tube and maybe its mag7 pump.
I can't believe the evaporation in just one day!! Hardly any flow, or lights or heat yet with the water so low. I'm planning to close in the canapy completely, add more ventilation and add a water top off just with a gravity fed drip. Not sure if I can do that without float switches, but I'm thinking a slow drip through a quality needle valve should be accurate enough to just let it drip without worry from a gravity fed 10-20 gallon.
Anyway, I'll get some more pics up as I finish stuff off. I'm busy though, so progress is always slow unfortunately.
Thanks again Brian for the extra equipment to help me get this going! Its much appreciated!!
Mike
