I guess that is why there is a moorish idol at a shop in dispair (and without at least one eye), because we made a decision not to buy it (we dont always know the curcumstance under which these animals came to be where they are or what got them into that condition).
I have seen fish in bad shape at every store I have ever been too. You never know if the problem was stress from shipping or other things but I have not been in a store in Calgary that doesnt try to provide a decent environment for the fish. You can argue over wether a bunch of small tanks with few fish in them are better than large tanks with more fish? I really dont think petcetera is that different than any other store, except that they probably dont have as knowledgeable staff (for sales) so you might be on your own as far as researching compatibility and building a relationship with someone that knows your system.
It is a real conundrum wether not buying a strugling animal (or a known bad type) says to a store not to bring that kind in anymore or wether we are better off buying the animal a better home and chance? I have always considered my tanks to pet fish hotels and the better the service and quality of conditions, the longer they stay. I wont to provide a place that they can as close to as happy as they would be in the ocean (even though a tank will always be a far cry).
No arguments, just some thoughts.
Have a great day
Eric
