Put the fans back on the same side, it is the best way for cirulation and you will probably over heat with one on each side as they will be fithting each other. what they have done is used tow smaller fans instead of one larger one to create a flow through the fixture. if you draw from both ends you creat a vacumme and no flow, if you putsh from both ends you creat a pressure and no flow, if you have one end pulling and one end pushing you only get a flow equal to one fans cfm, if you pull with both from one end you get a flow equal to two fans cfm. you want both fans on one side pulling the air out of the fixture.
a computer is totaly different as you have more fans pulling out than pushing in, hence you also have vents to allow the unballanced air flow.
the best coling fan I have seen uses ducting for intake air and only exhaust fans.
