I'm really not quite sure, one minute he was giving me the gears as usual as I picked some caulerpa and algae out of the tank, the next minute he was upside down with his gills flared. I sort of wondered if he hadn't run into something accidentally and knocked himself out or eaten a bit of the floating algae and it got stuck. Either way he lingered for about 10 minutes and then died in spite of my efforts to revive him.
Since then I've gotten a new smaller gramma that doesn't seem to mind my hand in the tank. Not as much character as the last one but I'm sure he'll get crochety soon
