hi, fluval is a canister filter how big is your tank
i used my fluval 204 on my tank with carbon when iwas cycling my tank
its a 20 gallon nano it worked good for me helped with the flow
also theres really good hang on back filters ive been told to stay away from ones with a bio wheel or you can take it off.good luck with your
