I had a similar problem with, believe it or not, a Kenmore washing machine. It would sometimes work without any problems, and sometimes fill part way and then stop, and sometimes, nothing at all. I had a repair guy come check it out and found that it was just a lose connection/wire, and thankfully, showed me where. If your's is the same as mine, (no longer have it, so I can't check the model number for you), it may be the same problem, (although, do get the leak fixed, as it can do a number on your motor if the water finds it's way there)).
To fix it, (if it's the same problem), drain the water out of it, (just drop the drain line into a bucket and it will drain itself). Flip it on it's back, or at least back far enough so you can get underneath it. There will be a male/female connector near the front, right side of the washer, (really obvious). Make sure it's pushed all of the way in. If it is, then, (here is where it starts to get really techincal
), jiggle each wire a little, as the wire itself may have a short/break in it, (I was too lazy to pull the wire out and fix it, so, every couple of months, I'd tip it back and jiggle the red wire and viola, it was fixed). That's all it took for me to fix it. Good luck, and hopefully, this will work for you as well.
