I think someone may have bumped an old thread but it definitely does need to be sent in....I was on the phone with Apex remoted in for an hour....he stated "the flash chip may need to be replaced. But until we see it we won't know" then quoted 35-150USD for expected fix cost.
He agreed to pay it i just felt it wasn't worth the risk having something go after the repair was done.
