I agree, if you got zoo toxin in the eye it would be much worse than what you have. Perhaps it is red from residual bacteria from the salt water or an irritation from you rubbing it. Better safe...

I would think that if you used the same water and have a lot of bio-filter media you shouln't see too much of a spike. If anything, watch your nitrates.

For the 1 inch stuff I use air conditioner foam from Rona, never had a problem with it. Its like 5 bucks for 12x24 inches approx.

Agreed, get the 1 inch foam from Rona, it will make your tank self leveling.
