hi Glen,
One very important tip that I've learned is
Turn off ALL water movements in the tank!!
And also use a tripod if possible.
Get as close to the glass as possible.

Personally, I'd go with Emerald. Sally light foot, IMHO, will get too big for a 33 gallon tank.
