the cap should pop off, stick a razor blade under the trim all the way and cut around the whole thing inside and out,then it should pop off,might be tough with the silicone on the top edge still...

golds has 9" coralife pc's for 40 bucks and a 15g hex tank with lid for $50 and a aquaclear 50 for $30 then just use sand and rocks and you got a nice setup.
