I've done it to a squamosa a few times over the years always worked like a charm if things didn't seem right, about 15 mins I think I did, google freshwater dipping clams lots of people do it usually...

Brs gfo is fine, I think phosguard is the most common stuff that still uses aluminum, it should do fine under any flow, I wouldn't stress about it but maybe take a turkey baster and blast it off...
