I would be very careful with any pump that isn't designated for the specific use you are going to put it to. I've seen various Little Giant pumps with high gph and low cost, I'd be concerned that...

Mini mee! I'd say you are right on track there. I bought the Gen-X Mak 4 to use as the return pump on my 155. I think if you went with the Mak 5 you could T it and run your skimmer as well...

Steve, the sanding ensures that you get a good seal. I would imagine that one coat will just soak in to the wood, you'll barely be able to tell you put a coat on.
