the sump at reefs.org

Sorry if I seemed a little snappy with the squat thing. I'm just disapointed with reefs.org as a bulletin board. I was kidding around in my initial post, not that I'm not irritated by it, just that...

...after all IceCap is the most effecient, and cost effective ballast money can buy.... right?

I still think so. Of course you have to figure in the cost of bulbs and energy consumption. (sorry...

sump help

I would be very careful with any pump that isn't designated for the specific use you are going to put it to. I've seen various Little Giant pumps with high gph and low cost, I'd be concerned that...

Have any of you visited? Scott was nice enough to show me a couple of threads there a week or so ago and now I can't help going back and looking. It is like a freakin' car crash. What is up with...

Overflow question. Please help

The tough part is building the right size box for the pump. The box has to be big enough that the pump doesn't drain it faster than it can refill and small enough that it doesn't just remain full. ...

Rachel, welcome to the board! There is some good advice and opinions here. I'd say read as much as you can for the next while. When I'm not feeling so groggy I'll find a link to a good reading...

Worm/centipede are they good or bad

Patrick, you have yourself a member of the polycheate family, aka bristle worm. They make great scavengers and are part of a healthy reef.

How the west won reefin style

Mini mee! I'd say you are right on track there. I bought the Gen-X Mak 4 to use as the return pump on my 155. I think if you went with the Mak 5 you could T it and run your skimmer as well...

The sump is 42"L x 24"H x 18"W . Funny you should mention that back problem Scott because it looks like I may be the one not helping move it. So chip the candy off your butt and be ready ...

Spar Urethane

Steve, the sanding ensures that you get a good seal. I would imagine that one coat will just soak in to the wood, you'll barely be able to tell you put a coat on.

Spar Urethane

I'd give it at least three with a light sanding in between coats.

Christy, I feel for you. How old is the tank? Is it possible you are going through an algae cycle? Somewhere you have more nutrients coming in than are being exported.

The things I'd look at...

Your Thoughts

Hello and welcome to the board.

Honestly, I think that the only reasons not to go bigger are: cost then space and weight would have to be figured in on really big tanks.

You will want bigger. ...

shiny Aluminum

You guys could make some money. J&L sells PFO reflectors for $40. That leaves you guys quite a wide margin when you think of a $6 cost.

Do I get a share for the idea?

Signature lines on other forums

Hey Doug, I'm doing great. As Darren said, I'm not far from Langley at all. I have a huge back yard and will have a BBQ if you make it out. If you have the time we can do a tank tour as well.
