What I was getting at is for you to keep adding small amounts of ammonia producing stuff to keep the bacteria levels up enough so when you add critters/fish you don't go through much of a cycle

Solve your canister air issue?
I had the same problem years ago with a reactor and found I needed to restrict the outlet instead of the inlet. The back pressure allowed the pump to push the air out.

There's nothing you can do about it regardless of where you place your pumps on the opposite end of your tank. It's just the way it is...
