Does bacon stop your skimmer?
I don't think that would help much. Also makes a big difference if you have a fireplace, the CO2 level change in the air will greatly affect your skimmer too.

I think my next tank I will try this. Up north it is not too hard to find a nice clean beach. I will do a good wash and boil, don't need red tide in my tank images/smiles/icon_smile.gif
