The staff aren't as knowledgeable as J&L, but some of their livestock and rock prices are pretty good. And their selection is huge (although not all aquarium related)...

I'm not so sure about the safety of ABS pipe. Admittedly pumps etc are made from ABS, but there may be an issue of quality/purity/adjuncts etc. compared to sewage pipe grade ABS.

Use an outdoor grade sealer or finish
If you don't use the Zinser specifically, you can use any outdoor grade product. Any kind of deck sealer should work. They all have UV resistance, and contain moldicide and fungiside.
