thanks for the rpelies. I now crank up the heat in my apartment and let the mix sit for a bit (if it is fresh RO water it is cold)... it's very near tank temperature and it doesn't shock the system...

that make sense, but I can't match the temperature, so I'd induce temperature shock... maybe if I free up or buy a container and remove the heater from my tank temporarily onto the new water and go...

yup, I've got a couple of cheap ones from wal-mart. I drip everything, fish corals inverts. I was reading they like about a couple of hours. I am a bit paranoid because my tank has trace nitrates...

quick question
maybe I read it wrong, but if theere is no live rock or snd or anything else, and you're adding a dead shrimp, how will the bacteria form? don't you need at least one source of life, so to speak?
