As long as it isn't black I think it's alright. I've ready a few places that black is rotting green algae. Usually only happens when you don't clean it enough.

I would go 18" at the absolute minimum. If its an 8 foot tank, you should really try and get it up to 20". Getting good flow can be really difficult in thin tanks. Without good flow you can get some...

A single vega should do the trick. Especially since your keeping Lps! I've seen a few 30ish gallon tanks with ai sols, haven't seen any with Vegas yet.

Yeah mine hides behind a power head and on top of the frag rack which is really annoying! There is only an inch of water but she gets up there and flops around.

I can go a week without a skimmer if I don't feed to heavy. I would try and do a water change a week, maybe %20. But the best thing is to watch your tank and just look to see if the corals are doing...

I don't think you can over feed a coral, but I do think that you can overfeed a tank. If your feeding that much you'll end up getting nitrate and phosphate problems in my opinion. I wouldn't feed it...

But back to the question! Yeah I leave mine exposed for 30 minutes...
