Re: Flashlight Finds Big Freakin' Crab
Caught the crab last night with the two flashlight approach and a pair of tweezers while he was running around on the sandbed. Then into the 2.5 gal he went.
Think I might rearrange the rock in...

Flashlight Finds Big Freakin' Crab
Holy cow!
Like the knucklehead I am  , I got the flashlight out again to have a look at our 42 hex. Didn't have to look long to find another night critter. This time it's a two-jellybean...

Re: Types of Algae to expect in new aquarium
Once your rock cures and the tank is cycled, definitely add reef-safe snails and perhaps even hermit crabs. The astrea snails we have keep fuzzy green algae off the rock. Wouldn't do without them...

But seriously, then you can see some of the hitchhikers that came in on your rock or corals. Some critters only come out...

Re: dragonet HELP PLEASE
Our mandarin dragonet used to lose its colour while sleeping. First time we saw it that way it wasn't moving and we thought it was sick or dead too. Shining a light on it for a period of time...

Found Snapping Lobster in my Acro?
Haven't seen one of our fish for a day or so, so I took the flashlight tonight to see if I could find either its hiding place or its body
Didn't find the fish, but did find a small orange...

Thanks for the support. I won't consider this reef out of the woods until another couple of weeks pass. Then somewhere down the line, something like cyano will rear its ugly head and I'll have to...

Re: Algae is kikkin' my butt ?
Geez, I didn't know you couldn't keep snails with a lionfish. If you could, though, I'd add a couple of dozen astreas or other snails. They'd fix your algae problem pretty quickly, ime.

LOL!! I talk to the fish in our new 42 hex to encourage the shy skunk clowns to come out from behind the rock. I talk and talk and talk. Funny, though, they haven't ever said anything back to me...

We used the RO water from Safeway in our 7 gal bowfront for 6 months until we installed our old RO unit from our previous house. There are three types of bottled water at Safeway. One is Spring...

Re: What do you need for a nano?
AquaClears are great on small reefs. We had an AC 300 on a 33 gal we had awhile back. Also have AC Minis on our 7 gal and 2.5 gal. Media chambers are filled with foams which get thoroughly cleaned...

Re: planing for fish in 40 gal tank
How a about doing a FOWLR tank? The rock'll help handle the bioload. Make sure the rock is fully cured before adding the fish, which you probably already know.
Also, if you do get a lionfish...

Re: Pictures of Sea Apple feeding
Don't know if it's true, but I've heard/read that a dead sea apple will give off serious toxins - and not just the usual ammonia and nitrite. We had a really beautiful but strange looking brilliant...

Re: Brown layer on top of my water
Surface scum was a problem in our old well-cycled 75 and the 180 (both had a skimmer), and in our 110 gallon indoor goldifsh pond. It can be cured by agitating the water surface more. Just move...
