Ball pythons will not eat frozen food, and I doubt he will ever get to the size of needing to eat a rat. My guy will only grow to 4-6 feet long, not like, say, Burmese pythons that'll get 20-30 feet...

Geez, Brad, I hope not this time

It was bad enough feeding our python this afternoon ... they need to eat a live mouse every 7 to 10 days. Today was the day for that sad, but necessary,...

Found Another Bad Crab, Anybody Want It?

Bought some new rock to get my empty 7 gal started again. I was reaaranging the rock today and, dang, found another crab that I believe is a mithrax. The poor little guy really didn't like being...

Re: Too many Feather Dusters?

Trevor, I'd kill for a tank full of featherdusters! They're so delicate and pretty, IMO.

But, really, they aren't a problem unless you think they are. What's beautiful to one person may not be...

Yes, Trevor is right. I have cut down the 802 prefilter's plastic housing so it takes up less room in my puny 42 gal hex. I also don't use the white plastic insert in the prefilter, I only use...

Re: Thanks Beverly

Hey, Patrick, you're welcome!

The "other frag" is a type of acropora. It needs to be high up in the tank where it can get lots of light. Also needs some water flow around it, but do not point...

I agree that there's good bacteria on the dirt, however, the dirt has yet to decompose fully. There is a lot more bacteria in the relatively clean sandbed without the dirt, and the sandbed will not...

Water changes don't do very much to remove the crud, ime.

Using some kind of mechanical filtration with foam or polyester to trap the crud will remove quite a bit of it. Make sure to thoroughly...

That's pretty much what I've done when moving sandbeds and all seemed well afterward, too.

I removed all but an inch or so of water, scouped out the sand, and just got rid of the sludgy water...

Cured rock, ime, is rock that leaves no ammonia or nitrite in the water. That would indicate all the dead stuff has already been processed by bacteria that has colonized the rock during the curing...

Did I Buy Uncured Rock?

Okay, I think I know how to tell if rock is uncured or not. You bring it home, put it in saltwater with a running pump, let it sit there 3-4 days, then test the water for ammonia and nitrite, and...

ROTFLMAO!

Yeah, and I usually cook the stuff too. Tonight we're having baked Altantic salmon, corn on the cob, carrots, and some great garlic dill pickles. Yummmmm

To change the...

Yeah, a low bioload is very important for not doing frequent water changes. But almost nobody keeps a low bioload once they've been reefkeeping for awhile, so let's be realistic here.

I know the...

When we had our 180 gal reef, I still did weekly water changes of 25 gals. Plus the skimmer was cleaned weekly and the foam in the Hagen 802 prefilters were cleaned.

Weekly, weekly, weekly - no...

Re: Water Changes

HERE!! HERE!!!

Weekly 10-15% water changes are essential for all of our reefs - big and small. No my dog doesn't eat the salt mix, and no I won't do a larger one next month. Next freaking...

Re: Damsel catching

Yes, you can use a net to catch your damsel, but you'll have to dismantle your reef to do it. Just have the water and the fish inthe tank, and the net'll catch it every time.
