It shouldn't float if it's properly waterlogged. You may lose a few grains here and there, but that's endemic to any reactor.

You can do it same day. Tyler and I have done rockwork for people with their existing rock on-site. You just need to be prepared properly and keep the rockwork damp with some towels or newspaper...

For Zoas, AA' tabs should do that job.
