Do you guys who don't use covers have some sort of shield between your bulbs and the water so that you don't get salt creep or water on the bulbs? How far away are they from the surface?

I think I've found my problem. The piping was not lined up properly with the intake causing some vibration sound. I fixed that and it seems to be quieter though the fan still makes it a little...

Thanks for the reply. It is a Japanese model. The pump is clean. Not a speck on it. I have it sitting on some foam right now, but that doesn't seem to do much.

Tips on quieting down Iwaki?

Anyone have any tips on quieting down my Iwaki 40RLT? The thing hums and whines like crazy! THe whining stops if I restrict the output but I don't know if that's normal. Any suggestions?

Aquarium Illusion sells them. Be prepared to spend a lot as they (the checkvalves) are pricey as well as Aquarium Illusions. Best bet would be to look at JL's or give them a call.
