Glad everything is working out for you. The $1 frag was a very small Ricordea Florida. It is very similar to a mushroom but will do well with more light and slightly higher flow.

Loud as in pump vibrates loud or loud as in air sucking in loud? If the pump vibrates, put it on some foam to dampen the noise. If its air sucking in loud, put a muffler of some sort at the suction...
