No, copper is poison. Just not immediately fatal in dosages used to kill parasites. LFS use it has it's the most common method. But it's still poison and can leave residual amounts in the fish....

I actually built enough room for it in the stand, just not enough room to get it in the stand after the sump was installed. Now I'm building a matching cabinet for it.

No, it should just work. Using Fusion, it just connected for me, not even sure what settings to look at. Ultimately you probably need to configure your router to get it working, not the Apex itself.
