Re: Which LR to get

Over the years, I've bought LR by the box from J&L as well as hand picking pieces from LFS. Overall, I'm more satisfied hand picking pieces from LFS, even though I pay at least twice as much for it....

You are shooting for a dKH of between 8 and 11, so your 6.72 is somewhat low.

Going back to your original post, I am wondering by what means are you testing pH? Do you have a meter or are...

Re: KH

Now I'm VERY confused  I was expecting you to offer either a number under 15 dKH or a number something like 3.21 meq/L. I can only guess that your test kit measured alkalinity in ppm, hence...

Re: lighting etc

While 80-81 isn't really hot, I keep my tanks at around 78F in the event ambient room temps raise tank temps. Also, I make sure there is lots of surface agitation for good gas exchange allowing for...

Re: .

Possibly. Other factors will be the amount of direct or indirect water flow around the colt, what kind of light it is getting (MH, VHO, NO, etc.), water temp. IME, colts don't like strong, direct...

Re: Advice: Unhappy tank..

Before doing anything, recalibrate your pH meter to make sure it's correct. Also, what is your current dKH? If your pH meter is right and you have a low pH, then adding baking soda so KH is between...

Des,

Are you still going to host a meeting soon? Unfortunately, we won't be able to host one at least until Oct, probably in time for PrairieReeefer to be able to make it, I hope

Re: 3rd time the charm

I think if the male is in a separate container inside the tank and the top lip of the container is above the water line, keeping the pumps going would aerate the water so the fry wouldn't be gulping...

Re: banded cat shark egg

I have seen sharks' eggs. They look rather impervious to critters like hermits and shrimp.

I'd be more concerned about how to provide a suitable home for them once they hatch. How big does a...
