Just rubs off, but they are doxens of them through-out the sump

Could be related to the pinnacle shaped black 'sponges' that have been growing in the tank for the past six months. I pull it out of the tank regularly.

Black spots in my sump..any idea what they are?

Over the past few days, have had dime size black spots all thru my sump as per pic.......are these an indication od something sinister? They appear to rub off easily.

Thanks for that great info...

Based on the results I was getting (versus the applicable safe ranges) I was thinking there could something really wrong. Will monitor going forward.

I have used H2Ocean almost since the start.......

but changed to a box of Meersaltz (on a LFS recommendation) and have just started using Instant Ocean when the Meersaltz ran out. Maybe part of the problem was the change in salts?

It is velvet to the touch, is rigid enough that flow does sway it.....

and grows straight up as if reaching for my HO T5's. None of my fish touch it and have an Algae Blenny, Yellow Tang, Chromis's and godby with cleaner shrimps.
