Holes are always great as it allows you to run a sump and hide a lot of plumbing. How many depends on whether or not you want to have the returns come through bulkheads in the glass or over the edge...

I just replaced the PVC part where the pump outputs into the manifold with the SCWD. Then since all water passes through the SCWD, it will only fire 1/2 of the manifold at a time.

With a 20000K bulb, I don't really think that you'll need actinics at all. I personally would switch to VHO actinics and a lower K bulb like 10000K.
