If the MH is at the front of the tank will there be any rocks and corals under the light? There may be some light spilage outside of the tank, but that is determined more by the reflector and...

THe problem isn't with how deep the tank is. 150-175 watt will do nicely on a tank that is 20 inches deep, with SPS put high up you could grow some of that too. The light spred from only 1 MH bulb...

Intersted in 400watt MH
I'm thinking of upgrading to a single 400 watt MH from my current 250watt. Can someone tell me what a balast goes for? I'll get a new bulb and use my existing reflector.

Muck, what kind of stock are you refering? Fish or corals?
Eveytime I've been there they have had lots of everything, SPS, LPS, softies, tangs, angel fish, and others. Perhaps you were just unlucky?
