OK, I am going to recommend a little different than brad, if you look at the carbon block filters a lot of them are 1 micron nominal, this means if you use a 5 micron sediment you will allow your carbon block to become plugged fairly quickly. what I run is a 1 micron nominal sediment and change it out every 6 months and my carbon blocks I change every year. also I added a prefilter as we have a bad algae problem out here, so I was running a 5 micron in front of the 1 micron. i get the 5 micron ones for about 1/3rd the price of 1 microns. I recently changed this set up to a bigger type of filter, still a 10" tall but a 4" diameter instead of the standard 2, this allowed me to go to a graduated 25 micron to 1 micron absolute filter which lasts me about a year because of the size.
for ease of cost I will recommend a 1 micron nominal sediment filter for you, should be able to get them for between 7 and 14 bucks depending on where you go.
