motorized lighting lift system
I have 3 led light fixtures hung by cables and would like to put in an electronic system with a up/down switch to raise the fixtures to gain access instead of doing it manually.
I have done some research and have figured a need a motor that is able to pull the fixtures cables up/down, a switch to operate the motor and some sort of way to configure the switch to know when to stop at the desired up/down location. I have seen some people who have used actuators to lift their canopies, but because of the limited space I need something that can pull the cables. I have no problem connecting a pulley system to the cables but do not know where to buy a motor for this or how to connect and operate it to a switch and program it? Anyone have any info? If anyone is mechanically inclined for this and local to me I would willing to compensate for installation help. Thanks, |
Ask blue water aquarium in victoria and see their portfolio on their site...they did one there.

check out lastlights old build thread. he starts talking about it on post 179, he did a really great job |
Check hydroponics stores, I've seen factory made units for this
Also for diy I'd recommend a stepper motor |
One thing I'd change is I'd use aluminium channel or something to create the pulley assembly rather than wood. Less to go wrong! I think my build lists where I sourced parts from. I don't recall off the top of my head sorry.

If you decide to DIY it, I can help talk you through it. I do this stuff all the time but I'm too swamped with work and a PhD at the moment to help you hands on . Will be a fun project! |
Take a look at my build thread...got a light lifter that pulls and limits distance.

Anyone else recommend places to buy from? I talked to a guy at progressiveautomations.com, they have a wharehouse in Richmond, basically would be able to show me how to wire everything together, but after speaking with him and reading some of your threads it seems a lot easier..... Thanks everybody. |

I got it from progressive...it was not hard at all. Not super quiet though. I only use it about once per week so it doesn't really matter to me right now.
