50gal Fused Silica Box O'Stuff

So, I am starting over! It has been about four years since I tore my last tank down. The first thing I did was resurrect the live/dead rock by doing an acid bath.. 2 hours in 10% muriatic acid from HD. (all safety precautions taken) The Treatment/Torture process: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8260/8...b1301748_m.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8245/8...a6b2a455_m.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8259/8...232d8de5_m.jpg Talk about frothing! Then I did a bleach bath after making sure all of the acid was gone, R/O water, dry, R/O water..rinse and repeat. Then I have been cycling the rocks in a Rubbermaid ever since with weekly partial water changes and Rowaphos. This time it will be a 24x24x20 cube-ish tank from Concepts and a Marineland stand to support it. The tank will be in the corner and viewed mostly from the couch..so I made some adjustments to orientation on the stand. This way you don't see the plumbing all the time. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8244/8...6bd34bd2_m.jpg and http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8243/8...4d14c33f_m.jpg More to come.. |
Its about dang time bud!....good to see ya getting salty again!....sounds like a good list o equipment and the concept boyz make an OK tank:razz::wink:

More
So here are some more pictures..
The sump- 20gal tall Water will come in the top right chamber and flow under the divider to the chamber on the lower left. The water will then flow up through course reef rubble and out the two PVC elbows into the area where I will have the heaters, chaeto, and more live rock. The water will flow by the Bubble Magus Nac7 around the corner to the return pump. This is the only way to fit the larger skimmer, have a space for Chaeto, and have the return pump in the best location for the plumbing. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8263/8...00518226_m.jpg There will be a 5 gal reservoir tank next to the sump for ATO, which use my old Tunze ATO. Plumbing- Herbie style 1" PVC drains Returns are 3/4" PVC with a check valve. Vinyl hose attached from Speedwave 1320 pump to PVC for quieter operation. Not that this pump needs to be any quieter! It is silent. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8243/8...e18da50a_m.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8252/8...1e4ab243_m.jpg Note: the emergency pipe (on right) has been cut down now so it is about 1/2" lower than the overflow weir level..and they have been painted black! The PVC was painted black with Krylon Fusion paint. Simply fantastic stuff! Lighting- Radion G2 So I tried to figure out how to hang the Radion over the tank...did some searching and one other reefer had the idea of using electrical conduit. I bought 3/4" conduit pipe and a conduit bender to create the shape I wanted. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8245/8...5936901e_m.jpg Once the pipe was bent in the two directions. I scrubbed the pipe of any coating and then painted with Tremclad Galvanized Steel primer. Let it dry. Then coated with flat black Tremclad spray-paint. The hanger was attached to the stand using galvinized metal conduit clips. This allows the entire fixture to rotate, but it does not raise or lower. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8261/8...35b969a0_m.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8248/8...6d339f0f_m.jpg Holes were drilled for the Radion hanging kit to attach to. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8239/8...02f9508b_m.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8256/8...5c7aa5c8_m.jpg Leak testing- "There is always a leak..." So this is the final orientation of the tank and how the lights fit. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8259/8...7cda00c3_m.jpg When the water is flowing I will give more updates. -Not sure why the photos are coming in so small...using URL from Flckr. |
