Acro smells bad. Is it a goner?
I have an acro that had some algae growing on it at the tips and they looked a little bleached. I broke off the areas of aglae but it still smells bad. It also didn't seem to react to me taking it out of the water. How do I know if it is still alive?

If acropora smells, it's still alive.

Yeah acropora stinks even when it's living..i've grown to like the smell :) Dead ones, thats a putrid smell..one of the worst things to smell when you get a cooler delivered.

It does smell pretty bad but I don't think it looks that bad. Ignore the yellow. It is just a shadow. What do you think? Any hope left for it?

Looks fine. Leave it for a while and let it settle in and see if it colors up. Acro, to me, smells almost like those little baby corns, if you've ever smelled those :)

Some have also suggested that acros smell like sweet corn or stem cells. They definitely do have a distinct odor.
