Vancouver Island diving question

We have a WestJet credit that must be used soon and thinking of flying out to the island on the May long weekend and doing some diving. What kind of dive conditions, visibility etc. can we expect that time of year? We are thinking of going to Victoria.

I would talk to these guys:

www.rockfishdivers.com or email them info@rockfishdivers.com. Alisa and Tyler are awesome and know their stuff.

It really depends on where you go. That time of year can also be variable in terms of Viz at any location. Head up to Pt. Hardy and you are more likely to get better Viz and some amazing diving. Nanaimo and Victoria have some great wreck diving. Are you looking for shore dives or boat dives? Feel free to drop me a line when you are looking to finalize plans and I can give you some direction. I have about a thousand dives logged around the island :)

Hornby island is my favorite spot

Although its the only spot I've really ever gone diving

...mainly looking for my sunken seadoo

May long weekend typically isn't too bad I've found but it really depends on the weather. If there is a lot of rain the viz can suck. Sometimes it's awesome, sometimes not so great. But typically I have had great conditions. Last time I was in diving in Vic the viz sucked so we got a charter out to Race Rocks area (further off the island) and it was EPIC! Like possibly one of the best dives I've ever done... mostly because of the sea lions. And because it was further away from the run-off it was crystal clear.

Another area to check out in the island is Browning Pass/God's Pocket. More of an epic journey to get there but it's rewarded with epic diving. God's Pocket might actually take the cake over many of the coral reefs I've been diving at.
