Good algae?
 

I've got 2 different blooms happening. One on the front in some zoas. Maybe about 1.5". And I've got another growing in the back. It's about 4-5". None of my hermits or emerald crabs are touching it. Should I leave it be or should I cut it out somehow?

Definitely not belonging to the type of pest algae, I have the algae of your 2nd photo in my DT too. Could you post another photo ( side elevation ) of the red algae at the first photo & thanks. If you don't want the algae, I'll love to purchase it from you. Beware of the tang, rabbit and angel fish that may nip at them.

I would also like some of that algae You have in the first pic!:mrgreen:

I don't mind it that much. Just wish it didn't sprout up in the middle of my zoas.

Nice algae & thanks for sharing the photo! You need to trim the algae when it's getting bigger and blocking the corals from receiving light particularly the algae at your 2nd photo for each single frond can grow up to more than 8" in dia. I'll like to do a trade with you when the algae ( 1st photo ) grows larger once you've done with the trimming. Just let me know by that time and I can show you my collection of macro algae for you to select.

The algae in the second photo is actually growing on the backside of the rocks, so it's not going to cover anything. If it poses no real harm, then I guess I will leave it be for now. I love how the smaller one looks. I just really hate that it's growing out of my zoas.

I started this tank in oct. so I'm still pretty green at a lot of this stuff. Never had to trim or frag anything yet. But if it keeps encroaching on the zoas, I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and start chopping.

All you need is to use a scissor to remove the portion potentially blocking the zoas and keep doing the trimming biweekly or once a month depends on the growth rate of this algae.

I have the stuff in pic1 also. Does anyone know what its actually called?

If you do decide to get rid of some I would like to beg for a piece :)
