Scroll Help

The other day, I noticed some stringy, jelly type of stuff in two places along the growing edge of my orange scroll. Despite my constant gently blowing it off with the turkey baster, the stuff keeps coming back. A few small places along the edge of the coral are now no longer orange.

What is growing on my scroll and what can I do to get rid of it? No other corals are affected by this stuff.

weak iodine dip??

Beverly 05-07-2004 09:35 PM

Brad,

How much iodine to how much water, and dip for how long?

Quinn 05-07-2004 10:25 PM

Perhaps another coral is too near and it is releasing some sort of protectant compound?

Beverly 05-07-2004 10:59 PM

Quinn,

Coral has grown 10 times since I bought it as a frag. No new corals in the tank, actually nothing new at all in the tank except NSW. No corals near it in the least. It kinda sticks out like a sore thumb in the tank. Gets fairly good water flow without being hit directly. Could try moving it in the tank to see if that makes any difference.

Do you know about iodine dipping? How much iodine to how much water, and for how long?

No clue, unfortunately.

NSW? where in Edmonton do you get NSW?

Bev, I've used tincture of iodine and slightly discolored the water. Sorry, I never measured how much. There are commercial coral dips that are Iodine based though...

Thanks, Brad. I'll head for the lfs in the morning if this persists. Moved the coral and does not seem to be a problem right now. Hope it lasts.
