Anyone used an Aquamaxx HOB-1?
Does anyone have any experience with this HOB skimmer. Looking to try a new HOB skimmer on a 29g reef and this one looked interesting. Any other recommendations from 1st hand experience? Thanks!

Fantastic choice, I'm running one on a small 29g system myself.
Excellent build quality, super quiet and easy to clean. If you need some photos I will hook you up. |

The problem with the water level was solved with a T connecter on the outlet to stop hydrostatic pull of the out going water. |
Here you can see the T connecter that allows the output to breath

Thank-you very much! I had read about the T adaptor but had no idea what it looked like or how it was placed. This helps a lot.

It's the best hob skimmer in my opinion, well built and actually works really well.
However there is some learning in how high or how low the cup should be set for skimmate. But that depends if you want to run it wet or dry. But you'll get a "feel" for where you want to put it or how it behaves with your tank after a while. The other thing is I have had this thing overflow fast on the back with a couple of additives I stopped using. So when you first start using it keep the cup high and might have to watch it a little bit. It was more my fault that it overflowed so fast anyways. |
