algae scrubber
 
Is there a prefered algae for an algae scrubber ,or is the multi colored natural growth of weirdness all I need:question:

Thick dark red/brown/green turf types are what normally grows from what I've seen.. i dont have one personally but have looked into them a few times.

As long as it isn't black I think it's alright. I've ready a few places that black is rotting green algae. Usually only happens when you don't clean it enough.

I clean mine often but not regularly since the growth rate can vary from week to week, and only 50% of whats on the screen,seems to do the tri:biggrin:ck

haven't seen any black,but pretty much every other colour.I was wondering if mounting a macro algae to the screen would work.

If the conditions are right in the scrubber it should seed itself with a fast growing turf algae of some type. I do not think any of the conventional macros like cheato or caulerpa would work well in a turf scrubber type application. The name really says it all: algae TURF scrubber. Since turf algae is really what you want to get growing on a massive scale here.
