How many Powerheads

Hi there,

I have a 6 foot long 100 gallon tank. I have two koralias (1400gpd) that are on a 6 rotation on either end of the tank. Is this enough? Should I have some other smaller powerheads at the back of the tank or anything? I have fish, some SPS and some mushrooms, leathers, zoanthids, and a hammer coral.

Each tank is different. You need to assess whether you're getting flow everywhere you need it. But not enough to agitate polyps. In my 75g, I ran 2 x Tunze 6100, about 3100gph each. Plus the return, another 900gph. My 180 has these plus two smaller tunzes, totalling about 10,000gph of flow in the tank. I could use more. SPS and a couple of euphyllia colonies.

Just to give an idea in my system as my main tank of 180glns I have return pump with 8000 glns plus 3 other power head (1800glns/hr/each) witch roughly flows at 13000glns/hr
With lots of LPS ,few NPS , a couple of softies and 6 Md/lrg. fish.I beleive of having no dead spots in my main tank.Hope that gives you an idea.

I run 2 6055 and 2 6045 plus 1200gph return in my 130g. Personally I would say you don't have enough flow.

I was wondering this too. I only have 1 in my 55 gallon tank. Maybe I need more?

Again depends what your keeping, but I would put at least 1 per end just so the flow is even.

I have a Gen-X PCX40 in the basement and the max flow is 1190gph. I raise the water about 10 feet. So I imagine I get some pretty serious flow from them as well.

Does anyone have a pump curve for it? I've never found one and I bought mine used.

10 feet is a long ways, I would think it would be around 800gph.

Try this calculator

The pump you have is listed as the gen-x mak4
