Is Your Tank Balling?

Quickly becoming the most popular method of replacing calcium, carbonate (alkalinity) and magnesium in reef aquariums today. Not only are you keeping these parameters stable, but also replenishing trace elements without doing water changes.

Have been concidering adopting this method with my up coming 300+ gal system but have a few questions.

First of all I have a Profilux 2ex ( but upgrading to a 3 ) with a 4 head doser. Can it be used to run these products.

Second, to calculate the amount of each additive would it be the same as if you where dosing with bulk products.

I live out on an acreage with a septic system so it is a little difficult to do say 10% WC on a large system every week or even ever other week. Using the balling system will it allow me to reduce to a monthly WC if needed?

Yes any 3 pump doser will allow you to dose calcium, alkalinity and magnesium parts of the balling method daily. The Fauna Marin doser is almost identical to GHL dosers.

Yes it is quite similar to dosing bulk products other than at the same time you are dosing trace elements. Faunas trace B set is incorporated into your dosing solutions, so while you are dosing the calcium, alkalinity and magnesium portions you are replenishing trace elements at the same time.

The balling system will not allow you to reduce the rate at which you do water changes because it does not have an effect on how quickly your NO3 and NO4 will build up. One of the best ways to export nutrient build up in your aquarium will always be good old water changes.

Thanks for answering my questions, I will be doing a little more research to figure out what to do with the new system.

Yep, my tank is semi-balling! I use Fauna Marin for cal, alk, and mg. I get better results with FM than with bulk chems...no idea why.
