Where's my fire shrimp?
Hey guys,
So my shrimp molted about 2 weeks + now, and I haven't seen it since. I saw its empty shell, but it appears to be hiding. My question, is it normal for it to hide for so long or is it dead? I don't want to change up my aquascape because that would be a huge pain in the butt. My ammonia levels aren't high (0) so I'm assuming that if it is dead, the janitors did one heck of a job. Ren |
My guy disappears for months at a time, then I'll see him hiding in the back of the tank. Take a look at night as that when my cleaner shrimp seem to be most active in the tank.

I find fire shrimp are around 10 times more shy then a skunk cleaner shrimp. When they molt they are the most vulnerable this makes them want to hide even more. Out of the 3 fire shrimp that I have owned, I hardly saw any of them unless I checked every nook and cranny in the tank.

Mine are not shy at all. They don't hide after molt either. If I put my hand in tank they instantly jump on my hand.

I just found when I sold them at the pet store skunk cleaners would always jump on your hand and give you a clean, while fire shrimp were almost always hesitant and or afraid.

Mine wasn,t too shy, well it would hide but I could see him due to my aquascape. I guess it's shy now. I would be too!

I'll be adding skunks once my tank has more than a single fish in the tank. I ordered a bicolor angel from my LFS. Can't wait to get it. Though, I hope it isn't too soon, my car is in the shop and the bill is increasing exponentially.
