Plumbing Union Won't Come Apart Easily

I installed a union coming off my bulkhead. It is not glued together because the union does turn a little bit at a time if I use all my might.

I suspect that the rubber o-ring has slipped out of place.

Any ideas how I can get it apart?

Lock joint pliers, make sure you loosening it

Strap wrenches are also handy for this.

Hands took a beating but I got it apart.

This my first time using unions. I think I installed the union upsidedown as nothing is holding the rubber o-ring in place. Is there anything I can use to stick the o-ring in place without compromising the seal?

Silicone Lubricant (O-Ring Grease)

Unions often stick so the rights tools are a good investment.

Sphelps - So this is typical for unions?

In my experience it is, they don't always stick but it's pretty common.

CT sells a two pack of strap wrenches for $16 btw, half that when on sale.

strap wrenches (not to be confused with wenches) are one of the most useful and under rated tools IMO. Way better than the likes of channel locks and vice grips... won't damage your parts and provides better torque.
