Fluval 205.

I bought this Fluval 205 canister filter loaded it up and got it running just to realize that it leaks! It was a used sale and I wont go into details about the crummy seller!!!!

Either way, I have for sale a Fluval 205 canister filter that leaks. All the trays, hoses & attaching devices. It works but just leaks.

If you need Fluval 205 parts this is your chance or on the other hand if you have one that is broken let me know and I might be able to fix this one.

I'll take $20 for it as parts or some frag? Even $5

This one is a loss for me.

Where does it leak from? Just the seam between top and bottom?

hfp75 10-24-2012 03:53 PM

Yep.

I reseated it many a time took off the o-ring and you can see where it wants to sit in the groove in relation to the square shape of the F205. I tried it where it wants to sit and the opposite. It leaks with the o-ring in either position.

The leak shows up at the handles (both) and drips down.

There is no media.

Unless someone knows a trick to fix it I am assuming that the o-ring is old and needs replacing of the canister/lid don't line up quite right.

Try Vaseline on the seals- its no toxic and tends to work very well

Why not just get a New oring?

Salt2Death 10-24-2012 04:51 PM

Or that's good to> but if you don't find one try the Vaseline lol

Fluval 205

I have a fluval 105 and I found that the O-ring can sit in a position that looks like it fits but is the wrong position. Instead of placing the O-ring on the top portion try placing it on the canister portion and seating the top.

Also I've read that Vasaline is a petroleum based product and was advised not to use it. I'm not saying the guy who recommended it is wrong. I just don't know what to believe as far as vasaline goes. I was personally going to lube all my o-rings with it but was talked out of it.

Where do you get a new o-ring?

plus if its $30 I might rethink the purchase.

A new marineland 220 is $100

Just saying.

Wrap some teflon tape around the o-ring. Works great. Cheaper than a new O-ring and no vaseline involved. Home depot sells if for less than a $1.00.

Back to the beginning... I'm not gonna "jerry-rig" it and come home to it leaking all over. If you are handier than I am then your in luck.
