Please help ID 2 sps/ montipora
Hi everyone,
I've been reefing for nearly 5 years and have only started trying to keep sps this year. So I'm not well versed in the scientific or popular names of different sps species/ types. Any how, I think I scored 2 nice pieces today. All I know is that they're both encrusting types of montiporas and that's about it. Please help me in finding their scientific and popular names so I can get more information on them. Below are some pictures I took right after taking them out of their bags. Sorry for the poor image quality; my camera is a really old point and shoot (Canon A620) and the batteries were nearly empty of charge. Thanks in advanced. Looks to me like M.danae & M.nodosa but hard to say for sure.
|
It looks like the tonga stuff. The first is M. verrucosa and snappy is right on the M. nodosa.
|
I am sticking with M.danae but that is only my opinion. That said both verrucosa & danae have a lot of similarities but either way it's a nice piece with loads of potential.

Thanks for the guesses guys! Yeah I agree Snappy hit the second/ orange one right on the head. As soon as I googled the latin name, similar looking images came up. Still not certain what the true name of the first one is though.
A little more info on it. At the store they were under Halide + T5HO Actinic combo and the base of the first coral looked more yellowish while the polyps were an intense bright blue. The orange one looked more like a vivid metallic orange. Well that's what I remember anyways. Yeah my lights are configured to grow macro algae and sea grass (my primary interest). I need to raise funds to start my DT reef tank soon. |
