My tank odessy

Well after lots of planning and a couple of false starts over the past couple of months my tank is finally up and running I took my old 33 gallon fresh water tank cleaned it up then proceeded to aquire stuff I needed and with the help of a friend who sold me some stuff ended up having a great start

my tank stuff

33 gallon standard tank
25 lbs live rock
30 lbs sand and substrate
Aqua c remora-s Hang on skimmer
powerhead 850gph
100 watt ebo jager heater
LED lights --- Home built kit

Now I had a major problem with where to put my tank due to the fact my house is very bright ended up changing some curtains and gave myself a darker corner but it worked set up my tank filled it with the sand and rock and a day later was looking good

then the wait began after 3 long weeks my diatom bloom came and once the bloom hit my tank started turning brown

8 long days later my tank was more brown than white and the bloom was finally over got my CuC and this was the day I put them in my tank

7 days after getting my CuC its looking better and now second cycle is just beginning and this is my tank today

Whats that white thingy on the bottom of your heater?

chris88 10-16-2012 03:37 PM

Great start. can you talk about your lighting set up in more detail?

The White thing on the heater is a spacer to keep the heater off the glass

As to the lights they are LED lights built by a friend with a kit he got from RapidLed.com with dimmer switch it is currently set to 50% brightness and I just raised it from 40% because of the coral

sorry for picture quality took with my Iphone4

there are
6 Blue
4 White
1 red
1 Moonlight

The current setup looks awesome it reflects just the right amount of light that it almost looks like natural light and produces no heat I have it hanging over the tank with a clothes rack I bought from Crappy tire which frames the tank perfectly

Eventually hoping to have a more permanent light stand for when I have more money(Never ending story in itself lol)

Uhmmm, I think that is just a packing spacer for the end of the heater when it's in the box. Pretty sure it's not meant to stay on the heater when in use.

It is a packing spacer, but it also works great inside the tank. I kept mine on so when I work in my sump and my heaters get moved around, they are not smacking glass on glass. No problems with it being on at all.

Also I discovered my snails and one of my Green Chromis love sitting on it at night I had 5 snails and one fish on it one night it was hilarious to watch them all jockey for position.
