Shaft on Little Giant Pump
 
Our five year old LG just quit. Barry pulled it apart and the shaft came out in a couple of pieces with a couple rings. Hard to tell if it is broken or made that way.

Anyone ? :confused:

There should be two ceramic rings with a "D"shaped hole in the middle. The shaft is ceramic as well. The two rings go on the ends of the shaft to hold the impeller in place. there is a distributor in vancouver that sells Little Giant parts.

What model LG? Maybe I have some spare parts from my dead ones hanging around.

It is a 3-MDQX-SC. The shaft is about 3" long and has a notch at either end, and two rings that fell out.

We had to put the pump back on, not running of course, to block the hole. Will pull apart again.

If you do need parts Deb than Western pump is your place. Give the impeller a good soak in vinegar and lube the pump up and it will probably restart.

Those LG's don't go down without a fight. :lol:

I know little about these pumps but I acquired one recently that was seized and after a couple of days of playin' around it's working. I worried too when the rings fell out. :eek: . "Oh great, more stuff for the junk drawer...". They are merely to hold the shaft from spinning, hence the "D" shape on the ends earlier mentioned.
Do the vinegar thing as Jonathon said. Throw a couple of cucumbers in the bucket too while yur' at it... :rolleyes:
You may have to remove the impellar housing from the motor unit. See if the motor spins without the housing attached. Mine had four threaded shafts that needed the assitance of "channel lock" pliers to remove. You'll then know which "end to attack..."
When re-assembling, slowly snug the shafts evenly to ensure it doesn't bind-up again. Kinda' like a car tire tightening pattern... :confused:
Lube the o-ring too... :cool:
