how thick is your tank ?

So im thinking of building a 50 gal sorta cube 24x24x20 tall and i was originally thinking of using 10mm glass and going rimless . Now that ive got a few quotes for $500 plus im now thinking of using 6mm and eurobracing it (would be $130 and i can polish it myself). So whos got 20 tall tanks and how thick are they ?Or whos building tanks and would you use 6mm for something like this ?

6mm is 1/5th of an inch, if you LOOK at that glass wrong it will break so probably not the best choice. I currently have a 24"X 24"X 15"H with 3/8" glass with no issues (no bracing either).

my rimless 60g cube 24 x 24 x 24 is 10mm all around and 12mm bottom:)

that was by far the cheapest quote for 10mm everywhere told me it had to be polished because the flare from cutting would be around a 3/8 and the price was anywhere from 900-500 dollars . I thought 10mm is the best choise its just kinda expensive.

I use 5mm for glass tops. I would NOT trust 6mm to be strong enough for a tank. What's the point of saving money if you won't be able to get a good night's sleep knowing any little bump will cause 50+g of sw to flood your place?

2' cube tanks are about $280 around here. Not rimless though. I would be comfortable taking the trim off one of those tanks though and polishing it up nice.

Go 10mm

Last time I got a quote for all the glass for a 10mm 24x24x24 machine polished it was a total of 460$ for all the glass

Shop around, get more quotes

i got a 48x48x20 tank built with half inch glass and 3/4 bottom for 550 bucks

Maybe you folks who got great prices can share where your tanks were built? The prices I've been getting are $100/ gallon or more, for glass that isn't as thick as what many of you have.

You've also got me a little nervous . . . My 40b is 6mm back and sides, and 5mm tempered on the bottom. :surprise: I did install braces along the top.

went out tonight and found 10mm for a reasonable price, will definitaly help me sleep at night using the 10mm.
