12dkh?

Someone who is very knowledgeable about reef aquariums has suggested to me that I raise my Alk to 12dkh, in an effort to eliminate some of the algae I have in my tank.

Are there any risks to raising the dkh that high? I'm already raising my mag and dosing h202, so I'm not afraid of a bit of risk . . . I'd just like to know what the risks (if any) are before I decide to do this.

Mostly LPS, with a few SPS and softies. Mexican Turbo and spiny Astrea snails. Blue Tixedo Urchin. Occelaris, green chromis, Bangaii cardinal, twin spot goby.

I ran my tank around 11-12 for the first year and had no ill effects. It's perfectly safe.

I'm under the impression 12 dKh is on the high side of normal, so I would not expect any negative side effects.

Considering that when you dial in a calcium reactor it's pushing out 11-12 DKH so there isnt anything wrong at that level.

Try having 16dkh. Lol I had a bag of IO a while back that gave my high dkh and low CA however I didn't have any problems surprisingly

Ran my tank at 11-14 for years, no issues.
