 316 SS

Anyone have any experience with 316 stainless and saltwater? I was thinking of making my daughters new cabinet out of it...
	Thanks, Beth |

Austenitic stainless steels (304 and 316) are corroded by chloride ions. Prolonged exposure while under stress will cause cracking. Heat makes it worse.
I would avoid it for a stand. |

316 is what we use for our check valves - very hardy, maybe just not in salt water :P
I can get 317, i will talk to the metal dood today and see what he says, although he also told me 316 would work fine o_O. Can you think of any other draw backs to using metal? Beth |

 What if it's powder coated?
