liverock fading coraline algea turning white
1 Attachment(s)
I'm not sure what's going on the live rocks are fading....coraline algea dying off? anyone experienced this?
|
What is your ca and alk?
Coraline algae needs calcium |
ohh Ic ic my dead rock started growing algea, but the liverock that has already have the coraline algea started fading and i'm guess I need a doser... I don't have anything running to measure the calc. or add it.
thanks! |
Yup I would say your calcium/magnesium is low. I keep mine up by dosing Seachem Advantage Calcium into my freshwater top off system. Works really well.
Coraline can also turn white if it's sitting right under bright/powerful lights. |
Bright lighting and not enough calcium are the 2 major factors. Instead of dosing you can also run a ca reactor or diy a calcium drip system for around $10.
|
On top of your Ca/Alk, or any other parameter, being F-ed up or light shock, coralline can also bleach if it gets exposed to air for too long. Something else to think about if you moved the rock recently.

I'm running the T5HO and it was away from the lights and it was turned over |
If your fish are dying, coraline algae is the last thing you should be worried about.
